Amie Johnson

I am a painter who creates oil paintings that capture different moments and feelings of my life.
I take photos of my day-to-day to use as a reference for my work. I either alter the photos to make something new, or use them with no editing. Using oil, I build richly textured surfaces by layering dense paint over a flat surface to add dimension to each painting.
While semi-realistic in style, I explore the effects of lighting and color through my compositions. I also use a variety of art styles to help convey the theme I am going for; such as surrealism, collage, and realism. I love to juxtapose my subject matter and the theme of the piece, making the viewer ponder. My themes tend to fall on more humorous, or lighthearted subjects, that are not serious in nature.
My paintings take inspiration from Van Gogh and contemporary painter, Cooper Cox for their use of impasto as well as subject matter. I also reference pop culture, music, and experiences that many young adults share. I will continue to reference themes that are relevant in my life.
